Advantages/Benefits
CyberKnife offers many unique benefits for cancer patients and those with other conditions, including benign tumors, vascular malformations and trigeminal neuralgia (cranial nerve pain).
• Non-surgical. There are no incisions.
• Painless.
• Convenient. Fewer treatments are required as compared with traditional radiosurgery systems.
• Continuously tracks, detects and corrects for tumor and patient movement throughout the treatment, and delivers treatments with sub-millimeter accuracy, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
• Uses the skeletal structure of the body as a reference, frequently eliminating the use of needles to place markers typically used with traditional radiotherapy systems or invasive frames.
• An option for some inoperable or surgically complex tumors.
• Complements St. John's existing
radiation therapy,
intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) or
image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) programs.
CyberKnife treatment is not appropriate for all cancer patients. To learn more, please contact your physician or call the St. John PulseLine at (918) 744-0123 to request literature.
