Patient Information
What to Expect
Every patient’s treatment is customized; however, there are certain steps that a patient can anticipate.
Prior to Treatment
1. You will be referred by a physician for CyberKnife treatment. You or physician may also contact the St. John PulseLine at (918) 744-0123 for more information about CyberKnife capabilities and clinical applications.
2. You or your physician will be contacted by a CyberKnife representative.
3. If you are a candidate for CyberKnife treatment, an initial consultation will be scheduled with a physician.
4. After the initial consultation, your physician will determine whether you need a custom-fit plastic mask, or a custom-fit soft-foam body cradle and a tracking vest or fiducials (markers) to guide the CyberKnife system.
5. Your physician then determines the exact doses of radiation necessary and when they will be administered. Some patients will require more treatments than others.
Treatment
1. After you and your physician determine the ideal treatment for your specific needs, treatment is administered.
2. After the treatment process is complete, you will return for follow-up evaluations to measure progress.
Referral Process
CyberKnife is not appropriate for all cancer patients. To learn more, please contact your physician or the St. John PulseLine at (918) 744-0123 to request literature.
